Special Brew : Refer to 'HYBRID/MIXED BEER STYLES' + Cider + Barley wine + Belgium origin Beer Style + ALL Wheat (Wit/Weisse) Beer Styles + Fruit Beer.
Beer Kit : Beer made from 'kit & kilo' has always been part of our early brewing journey. Over the years, we the people of iBrew has work very hard to help brewers get the best out of making from a can beer concentrate. The results have been commendable. I feel that it is time we give these people a platform of their own to compete. The rules are simple. Entries must include a can of beer kit (1.7kg). The rest of the ingredients can be made up of anything imaginable. Eg. Partial mash, fresh hops, liquid yeast etc. You can even give you beer a new name. Only 1 winner will be chosen.

All beer must be accompanied by a submission form that contains description of Style and brewing method (optional). Download submission forms. Fill one form for each entry. TYPE in. Do not use pen. This form will eventually contain judges' comments for you reference. All entries must be submitted to iBrew Showroom before 14th Aug 5pm. Or submit to IBC Day on 15th Aug, before 1pm.
Judging Day : 15th August 2009. To be held at IBC2009 event. Winners and runner-ups of each category will be revealed.
Judging :Judges will be looking closely on style of beer. A beer must not only look good and taste good; It must adhere to the definitive style and characteristics of the beer which is representing. Such as bitterness, malt flavors, hop taste and nose, color and overall appearance. For detailed definition of style, please refer to Brewers Association Beer Guide. Give us more information about Special Brew category?
For brewers who like to venture beyond traditional brew into more exotic concoctions. Last year we have only a few entries but I hope this year we can attract more. Style includes fruit beer, Herb & Spiced Beer, Smoke-flavored beer, Wood & barrel-aged beer, Ginger beer, Cider, Barley wine, Belgium Style beers and wheat beer. Only one winner will be chosen here.
Why include Belgium Style and Wheat in Special section?
I don't think we are going to get a lot of entries for non generic style. I feel that belgium style and wheat beer is unique in their own way. They should have their own domain.
Can I submit my kit beer under Lager, Ale & Special Brew category?
Yes, you can. But a full extract or all-grain beer cannot be submit under 'beer kit'.
