Reuse of Commercial Keg

Postby spud » 08 Sep 2009, 14:12

Experts, need some advice pls.
Have a novice Brewer here with me that was at Family gathering and they used some Brew--- Kegs of the 5lt type.
He managed to save one and asks can he reuse.
I have yet to see the dispensing arrangement but from what he says there was only the gas pressure at filling , there is some small tap arrangement that can be resessed and pulled out at will.
The cleaning maybe a problem he thinks and how would the keg handle a charge of Beer with 5 lollies added for conditioning..
Hoping to see one 2 morrow but any takers on what you have experienced much appreciated.
Thinking it maybe more trouble than what its worth.
Cheers spud

Hi rotiJo
Not sure as still to see the item, but I figure the sourse of the filled one was close to where U found your item.
So anyone have any experience with these, how hard is the cleaning, how easy etc and are they user friendly.

Hi & thanks for the replies so far
I still havent seen the item as yet, but I did visit a site for another Keg ( 5lt system) and the guys said its different to that one, doesnt have a dispensing handle, no gas sparklet /cylinder for charging. Says there is a cap / bung on top and a smaller cap with a dispenser on the lower side. He says its from Brewerks. Says there seems to be some valve inside and to me this may proclude the reusing as satitaions could be a problem if U cant get disassembly.
Anyone have anymore info as to reuse and cleaning.

cheers spud

I bought a few of those 5L mini kegs from them before. Doesn't seems that friendly to reuse, more like a use and throw item. You may have to destroy the mini keg before you're able to gain access to the insides.
